I really hope CCP's site mods will see fit to make this a permanent post...
This is about basic strategy... Why? BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO BE LACKING THE VERY BASICS OF IT!!!!!!!
So a few thoughts and then the rest of you feel free to chime in with yours...
#1. FORM A LINE!!!! (Whether pushing forward, falling back, or defending against attack it is important to form a line and keep it. Why? Because without this basic element: Players using long range weapons are either forced to engage close up, which is a bad idea, because the other players are moving up and blocking shots and/or turning corners which also blocks shots and the long range shooters are then unable to provide the kind of offensive support they should be bringing to the table. Not doing this also makes it very hard to plant drop uplinks in safe locations, and also very difficult to create nanohive zones. And with less eyes over a large area it makes being flanked and blitzed a much higher possibility.) To form this line pick a place on the map and the goal is not to move beyond that point until you know that you are beating them back at which point you inch the line forward (even if you lose the match this way the entire team will get better WP, SP, and ISK at less cost than if you didn't and instead tried to rush a superior force).
#2. STAY OUT OF THE WAY!!!! (I don't know why this is such a difficult concept, especially when it often gets both/multiple teammates killed and/or allows the enemy to get away clean, but when someone on your team is shooting at an enemy or has obviously camped a position just take a real quick look at where he is shooting and stay out of the way... this can easily be done by stepping a little to the side and firing from there or if he is crouched and you are using a standard gun then just shoot from behind him while standing, why not he/she is a free human shield for you, but if you are using or he is using something like a sniper rifle let the guy using the SR have the better crouching location. Above all sentinels stay out of the way, I cannot count how many battles that should have been won were lost on account of a sentinel with a HMG trying to run and gun enemies firing long range weapons from a long range and blocking crucial shots while the enemy uses that to flood and take critical positions... Remember sentinels your 3 most important jobs in order are covering crucial buildings, covering the flanks against scouts, and making strategic pushes forward laying down suppressing fire so the long range shooters can get into position to cover you and help you make your push to those buildings and their close range combat you do so well at. And before anyone mentions anything yes this is directed at HMG, forgers have other priorities but we can get into that later.)
#3. COVER YOUR TEAMMATES!!!! (Again this sounds very simple and kinda stupid to mention, but there are a lot of players that don't help their teammates by laying down suppressing fire, firing warning shots to warn them of an impending attack, covering their backs when they are on the move or actively engaged in combat, etc. The point is that what is bad for the people helping you is bad for you too. So if you have an opportunity to cover them do it, and then when they have to reload or recharge they can return the favor and you can go on the attack... remember, especially with the new mission system that players need kill assists as well as kills. And if you know your buddy has a better shot then back off and let him take the credit... in the end everyone wins. But when players set their teammates up so that they can do things like steal kills most of the time this only hurts everyone one way or another.)
#4. USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!! (I can't count how many players I have seen carrying around injectors and not using them even though they are only 10-20 meters away, or carrying around nanohives and not using them even when I am entirely out of ammo with something like a sentinel, or throwing out 5 drop uplinks one right after the next in the same area... Guys and gals, if you aren't going to use it then lose it and replace it with something that you are comfortable putting out on the battlefield without a second thought cause otherwise you are just going to die with them and lose them all anyway but in the meantime you have not helped your team or earned any WP at all so what was the point??? And in case you don't know what to go with nanohives are always appreciated or you could have a different version of the same suit or even 3 or 4 that have different pieces of equipment in case you see that a number of uplinks are already out but no nanohives or whatever... the point is be helpful.)
Anyway, those are some of the most critical...
If anyone else has noticed a lack of basic strategy getting them killed, costing their team matches, or just getting in the way of players being as efficient as they should be then please chime in with your own solutions (and be sure that if you ever see one of these players, to the best of your abilities, reference them to this post please).
Thanks!!! :) |

Have you ever seen how fast a scout goes down when it is being hit by proto assault HMGs from both sides?
